  • “Contagious & Queer” curatorial essay 

An afternoon of live painting set to the rhythms of a deep house soundtrack and accompanied by a group dive into artist Sands Murray-Wassink’s ‘gay’ archive. Together with audience members, Murray-Wassink and long-time collaborators Megan Hoetger and Radna Rumping summon the queer(-ing) force of their Gift Science Archive⁠⁠(opens in a new tab)⁠ as a collaborative gesture against erasure.

Over the course of the three-hour workshop, Murray-Wassink performed a continual painting action, producing a series of his horse drawings, while Hoetger and Rumping invited participants to peruse the group’s Gift Science Archive, in both its material (archival box) and digital (online database) forms.

Is Isolation a Form of Experience? was realized within the frame of Contagious & Queer⁠⁠(opens in a new tab)⁠, an interdisciplinary public program organized by curator Simon(e) van Saarloos for the International Documentary Film Festival, Amsterdam.
