“Ditzcourse” as in ditzy, as in silly, but still making discourse. Thinking out loud. Sharing information. Meaning making in relation. As informal as possible.
The gift that keeps on giving. (Radna Rumping)
Ditzcourse is a three-part series of conversations with painter, body artist, writer and perfume collector Sands Murray-Wassink initiated by Radna Rumping. For each episode, a guest was invited and a keyword was suggested. Everyone brought a power object or reference to the table. For episode two, Hoetger was invited to discuss the keyword Pleasure with Murray-Wassink and Rumping. The three met at the end of 2019 to start a collaboration that became giftsciencearchive.net(opens in a new tab), a database archiving relations and nearly 2,500 studio objects from the art/life practice of Murray-Wassink. The collaboration was also, as Hoetger wrote in the curatorial essay “Honouring Sands's Horsepower”(opens in a new tab): “a fierce feminist demand to centre the messiness of feelings and thoughts and sharing in our processes of meaning production, knowledge transmission and history-making.” They stayed in a continuous exchange. Now they meet at the home of Murray-Wassink in Amsterdam, where he lives with his partner Robin and cat Duman. In their conversation, Hoetger, Murray-Wassink, and Rumping talk about the too personal, vulvic space, anal space, being a feminist killjoy, noticing, a bad behaviour boat, and the pleasure of interpersonal connection.
Special thanks to Murray-Wassink and Rumping for the invitation to join them in conversation.
