Episode #1: Decipher Me or I Shall Devour You

Together with the figure of The Magician, Paula Montecinos Oliva and Hoetger sat at the reading table in the booth of Radio WORM, Rotterdam for Episode #1: Decipher Me or I Shall Devour You. Turning to the Tarot as an ancient form of algorithmic thinking, their live on-air reading breaks with a deeply entrenched neoliberal imaginary of the algorithm. Instead, they approach algorithmic thinking as a reading technology that makes the past present and opens the way for a future right there next door; as a re(de)compositional method inspired by the work of Denise Ferreira da Silva; as an anti-colonial tool that seeks the possible instead of the probable and the unpredictable instead of a mere rearrangement of existing facts; as a site of agency to (re-)formulate the questions and to re-invent the problem.

Sonic Feminist Fabulations (SFF) is a live on-air radio performance that experiments with the poetics and politics of displacement and diasporic (ecological) memories. The project was initiated by sound artist and choreographer Paula Montecinos Oliva in 2022 as a response to radio’s unique capacity to stretch and contract time, creating connections between invisible listeners across spaces, contexts, and coexisting temporalities. In 2024, Hoetger joined the project as an active collaborator, helping to conceive and develop aspects of the episodes, as well as the broader SFF framework, together with Montecinos Oliva.
